When Darren Till requested his release from the UFC in March 2023, it marked the end of an era for one of the organization’s most charismatic and dangerous strikers. A former welterweight title challenger who shared the Octagon with the elite of two divisions, Till did not leave because he lost his taste for combat. Instead, the physical toll of mixing martial arts disciplines finally forced a structural pivot.
Speaking candidly about his departure, Till revealed that persistent physical breakdowns closed the door on his MMA career. In discussions with UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell, Till addressed the recurring health issues that hindered his training camps. Kolena mi povolují, když zapojím MMA složku,
Till admitted, explaining that his knees would repeatedly give out whenever he incorporated wrestling and grappling into his preparation.
While his grappling-heavy training was compromised, his elite striking remained intact. Rather than forcing a compromised body through the exhaustive demands of mixed martial arts, Till elected to step away from the organization and immerse himself entirely in the squared circle and the growing world of bare-knuckle fighting.

The Transition to Pure Striking
Leaving the UFC opened a lucrative and revitalizing chapter in pure striking disciplines. Over the subsequent three years, Till built momentum through a series of victories. He stopped Mohammad Mutie in an exhibition, secured a technical knockout over Anthony Taylor in January 2025, and edged Darren Stewart on points later that May with two knockdowns. By August 2025, Till added a massive milestone to his resume by knocking out former UFC champion Luke Rockhold to become the inaugural MFB-Pro bridgerweight champion.
That four-fight win streak made a move to the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) a logical evolution rather than a desperate gamble. Though initially hesitant about stepping into the unpadded ring, Till admitted to Yahoo Sports that the financial package and competitive challenge were simply too lucrative to pass up. I have to just say, the reason Bare Knuckle happened is because I couldn’t turn down the offer,
Till said. It was irrefusable. … It excited me. It got me juices flowing. It’s a tough old sport from what I’ve been watching.
Proving Ground at BKFC 90
That grit was tested immediately on May 30, 2026, at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, England. Facing BKFC veteran and former reality TV star Aaron Chalmers at BKFC 90, Till experienced a harrowing welcome to the sport in the opening frame. Chalmers, holding a 2-0 record in the promotion and carrying a reputation as an aggressive finisher, landed a heavy blow that sent Till crashing to the canvas in the first round.
For a fleeting moment, it appeared the debutant had underestimated the unique chaos of bare-knuckle combat. But pedigree and timing separate elite veterans from the rest. Till beat the ten-count, absorbed the adversity, and immediately began turning the tide by landing sharper, more accurate strikes before the bell sounded.
The finish arrived instantly in the second stanza. Under BKFC rules, the second round restarts with both fighters "toeing the line" face-to-face in the center of the ring. Till exploited that immediate proximity with devastating efficiency. A blistering combination capped by a thunderous left hand flattened Chalmers for good, prompting the referee to wave off the bout at just 0:22 of the second round.

With his striking-only career flourishing and his knees spared the punishing demands of MMA wrestling drills, Darren Till has successfully redefined his fighting life far away from the UFC cage.
