A single court rubber was all that separated fifth-seeded Lehi from upending fourth-seeded American Fork in the Region 3 tournament at Skyridge High School on September 24. Despite putting together a commanding surge across the middle and lower singles flights, the Pioneers fell 4-3 in a postseason clash defined by a dramatic structural contrast: total Lehi singles execution against a clean doubles sweep by the Cavemen.
Singles Resilience: Olson, Sandepogu, and Gonzalez Spark the Rally
Lehi’s singles lineup turned in a relentless performance, claiming three of the four individual matches. After senior Ella Gonzalez fell in No. 1 Singles to American Fork senior Sophia Leavitt 6-2, 6-1, the Pioneers locked down the remaining individual courts.

Junior Kinley Olson anchored the response in No. 2 Singles, winning a three-set marathon against senior Bella Harris. Olson took the opening set 6-2, dropped the second set 2-6, and reasserted her baseline control in the decider to finish off a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 victory.

At No. 3 Singles, sophomore Sahasya Sandepogu put on a composed display against American Fork senior Claire Corbridge, grinding through tight exchanges for a 6-4, 6-4 win. Sophomore Sophie Gonzalez completed Lehi's singles run in the No. 4 bracket, comfortably dispatching Caveman sophomore Lyla Wood 6-3, 6-1.
Doubles Dictation: Cavemen Net Control Seals the Team Victory
While Lehi dictated terms in individual baseline rallies, American Fork controlled tandem play across all three doubles flights. In No. 1 Doubles, seniors Liberty Salcido and Abigail Cox were topped by American Fork seniors Rylee Egbert and Demi Dalton 6-3, 6-1.
The pattern persisted through the remaining brackets. At Second Doubles, Lehi senior Breckyn Holindrake and junior Claire Thatcher fought hard but fell 6-3, 6-3 to Caveman seniors Bentley Christensen and Halie Andrews. American Fork ultimately clinched the narrow team win in No. 3 Doubles, where seniors Lacey Ernst and Macy Murdoch defeated Lehi senior Eden Waddell and junior Delaney Taylor 6-1, 6-4.
With region play finalized, both teams shift focus to the Class 6A state tournament. Brackets are set for release on Thursday, October 1. Opening-round matches will take place at Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights on Saturday, September 27, before the final four rounds head to Liberty Park in Salt Lake City on October 2 and October 4.
