Major League Baseball's late-summer calendar brings a sharp focus on teams positioning themselves for the stretch run. According to the official announcement released by Apple and MLB, the August schedule for Friday Night Baseball leans heavily into established rivalries and high-profile rematches from the previous postseason.
The slate features a weekly doubleheader broadcast on Apple TV for subscribers across 60 countries and regions. Among the focal points of the month are two traditional meetings: an August 14 matinee featuring breakout star Jordan Walker and the St. Louis Cardinals against three-time All-Star Alex Bregman and the Chicago Cubs, followed later in the month on August 28 by the New York Yankees hosting the Boston Red Sox.
According to the Apple and MLB announcement, the defending American League Champion Toronto Blue Jays, led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., are scheduled for key appearances that recall their 2025 postseason journey. The schedule includes a Division Series rematch against the Yankees on August 14, and a Championship Series rematch against Julio Rodríguez and the Seattle Mariners on August 28.
The August programming also highlights several clubs noted as frontrunners in their respective divisions. The announcement specifies that the American League West-leading Seattle Mariners and American League East-leading Tampa Bay Rays will each make two appearances during the month.
Broadcast and Production Infrastructure
The games are produced through a collaboration between MLB Network’s production personnel and Apple's live sports team. Viewers have access to alternating broadcast crews returning for the fifth consecutive season:
- Wayne Randazzo, analyst Dontrelle Willis, and sideline reporter Heidi Watney
- Alex Faust, analyst Ryan Spilborghs, and sideline reporter Tricia Whitaker
- Rich Waltz joining for select broadcasts
Pregame coverage is led by host Lauren Gardner, former MLB All-Star Eric Hosmer, and insider Russell Dorsey. Additionally, viewers in the United States and Canada retain the option to select home and away local radio audio feeds during the broadcasts.
Platform Access and Viewing Ecosystem
Apple TV subscribers can stream the Friday doubleheaders across a broad hardware ecosystem. Supported devices detailed in the distribution rollout include:
Complementing the video streams, the MLB App provides data integration, including live-pitch tracking, ballpark renderings, player position monitoring, and the MLB Film Room archive for subscribers tracking structural team data throughout the season.
