# Jerry Jones Softens on AT&T Stadium's Glare, Pointing to Window Tinting After World Cup

> For years, Jerry Jones defended the design of AT&T Stadium against sun glare complaints. But after World Cup adjustments, the Cowboys owner is finally exploring window tinting.

When the Dallas Cowboys step onto their home turf, the challenge hasn’t always lived entirely on the opposing sideline. For years, a persistent adversary has streamed directly through the massive glass panels on the west end of the $1.2 billion AT&T Stadium: blinding afternoon sunlight. While owner Jerry Jones long defended the architectural choice as an intentional aesthetic feature and even a quirk of home-field advantage, player frustration has mounted across multiple seasons.

The issue reached a boiling point in November 2024 during a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, when wide receiver CeeDee Lamb lost a potential touchdown pass in the glare. Following the game, Lamb stated bluntly that he would one thousand percent support installing curtains, echoing earlier complaints from targets like Cedrick Wilson after a January 2022 playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Jones, notoriously steadfast, previously brushed off the criticism with characteristic defiance. In 2024, he famously quipped, We do know where the damn sun is going to be in our own stadium, before adding, Let’s just tear the damn stadium down and build another one. Are you kidding me?

That rigid stance finally showed signs of softening during training camp on August 2, 2026. Speaking with FOX 4 reporters Mike Doocy and Sam Gannon during the team's opening ceremonies, the 83-year-old billionaire admitted that a permanent fix is at least under consideration, prompted by how the venue operated during its summer hosting duties for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

## The World Cup Precedent: Curtains vs. Tinting

During the World Cup, where the Dallas venue hosted nine matches—more than any other tournament site—organizers took zero chances with visibility. For a high-profile group-stage clash between Japan and Sweden, FIFA deployed heavy black curtains across the stadium's west-end glass panels to block out the low-angle rays. Although the stadium features an unusual east-west alignment from end zone to end zone rather than the traditional north-south orientation of most U.S. football venues, that specific match timing made glare a genuine hazard.

While fans and players praised the blackout measure, Jones appears unlikely to adopt hanging curtains for regular-season NFL games due to his affection for the venue's natural light. Instead, the owner revealed an alternative approach inspired by summer adjustments:

> “Well, do you know something? Thinking about it and doing something about it are two different things. It’s hard to tell that time of the year because the sun’s not the same this time of the year than it is in the fall. That is, you get on in, the sun changes, and the angle of that sun changes from September through the year around. But as we look at it, I like some of the effects of the tinting. We’re giving that a thought.”

Opting for window tinting rather than full fabric curtains would represent a middle-ground compromise. It preserves the outdoor feel and exterior views that Jones cherishes while dialing back the harsh, low-horizon beams that blind quarterbacks and wide receivers during late-afternoon autumn kickoffs.

## Roster Consequences and Schedule Realities

Addressing the glare carries tangible competitive stakes for a Cowboys roster operating under win-now pressure. Missed connections on deep balls or routine red-zone targets due to environmental interference can alter the margin of victory in tight NFC matchups. For elite playmakers like Lamb, who has publicly advocated for relief, removing the visual hazard eliminates an avoidable self-inflicted handicap.

However, practical execution remains uncertain. As Jones noted, evaluating solar angles in the blistering heat of early August offers little parallel to the shifting shadows of November and December. Whether this conversational shift translates into actual engineering modifications ahead of future seasons remains to be seen, but for the first time, the architecture of America's Team is officially up for debate.
